Ralph Merenda

Ralph's Story Ralph John Merenda, 73, of 841 Water St., Meadville, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016, at Marquette Hospice House, Meadville. Ralph was born in Meadville, on October 13, 1942, a son of the late Patsy A. and Adeline "Dollie" (Affinito) Merenda. On July 20, 1968, Ralph married Mary V. Fucci; she survives. He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville. In 1965 Ralph and his father, Patsy, went into business together, opening Merenda Furniture Store which was located on Water Street in Meadville. In the early to mid 70's they moved the business to the newly built location on Route 322. After more than 30 years of successful operation, Ralph sold the business to Heilig Meyers. A US veteran, Ralph served in the US Army from September 29, 1961, until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1964. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as well as commendations for his Rifle Marksmanship. Following his 1960 graduation from Meadville High School, Ralph attended Edinboro College where he studied English and History. He was a member of the Italian Civic Club (ICC) where, over the years, he served as an Officer, Trustee and filled in as Club Manager on more than one occasion. Ralph had a deep respect for our US Flag and for all that it represents. He took great pride in displaying it. His greatest pleasure in life was time spent with his family and friends as they meant the world to him. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 48 years, Ralph is survived by two daughters Lisa Cremonese and her husband Randy of Meadville, Lori Merenda of Marco Island, FL, a grandson Anthony Cremonese of Meadville, a brother Dominic Merenda and his wife Joan of Fort Pierce, FL, many nieces and nephews. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating. Ralph will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006. Ralph was one of the funniest guys in MASH. I loved being around him.  He didn't have to say a word, just a look and you'd be laughing.  He was a sincere guy and the greatest friend. I have great memories and will miss him.  Sincerely, Patty Costello (Stimmel)

Maron (Brown) Calderwood Mays - I agree that Ralph was great fun! I am sad that we are getting so old that we are losing classmates. But that is life. The rest of us will cherish our memories.
