Joe Bufalino

Joe Bufalino

December 12, 1942 - April 24, 2020

Passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. His sister, Ursula ("Toni"), and brother-in-law, Donald Cipollo, were by his side. He is also survived by his brother, Russell S. Bufalino M.D., of Palm Harbor, FL; his sister, Jeanette Fossett (Mac) of Clearwater, FL; two nieces, Dawn Hovancsek (Jim) and Lea Turano; and two nephews, Todd (Courtney) Cipollo and Steve Turano. Joe was born December 12, 1942, in Pittston, PA to Samuel R. Bufalino and Lena (Fasciana) both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Bufalino was a compassionate, dedicated teacher and mentor for 31 years in the North Hills School District (Pittsburgh, PA), where he taught secondary social studies from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. "Mr. Buf" was an outstanding, passionate teacher of psychology and sociology and a favorite among his students. He was a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, vibrant teacher who loved to learn and thrived on the exchange of ideas. Joe was charismatic, sensitive, and empathetic, with a quick wit and keen sense of humor, which gave him an uncanny ability to connect with people. Joe also loved animals, especially cats, enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, yard work, snow skiing, water skiing, playing tennis, riding his motorcycle, and driving his Corvettes. Joe's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of his family, friends, former colleagues, and students and the many souls he so positively influenced throughout his 77 years. Joe was laid to rest on April 30 beside his parents in the Twin Valley Mausoleum, Delmont, PA.

Even though our contact was the class reunions over all these years.... I always looked forward to seeing him and sharing the dance floor with the smoothest dancer around !  Truly a wonderful person with a joy of life.  He will be missed.  RIP  Jeff Buttray

I am very sad to hear of Joe's passing. We always enjoyed ones company when we were together. Joe came to seee me when I moved to San Diego and what fun we had. Joe was quite the dancer and quite good. At the MASH reunion for class 1960, I was envited to participate and seeing Joe was so much fun. I have very fond memories of Joe. Rest In Peace my friend.

Joe was our very own Fonz! He was funny, devilish and oh yes, a great dancer.  Great memories of fun stuff in school and at class reunions.  He had a lot of friends, glad I was one. Patty Costello
