Robert F. Beier Sr., 71, of 21113 Star Route, Meadville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at home.

Robert was born in Meadville on Jan. 20, 1943, a son of the late Fredrick Gustave and Rowena (Henshaw) Beier.

On Aug. 1, 2002, Robert married Helen Pontillo; she survives. He had previously been married to Mary Jean Daddio, who preceded him in death.

Robert was a tool and die maker more than 45 years. He began his own business, Independent Tool and Manufacturing, in October 1981 and had just recently retired. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was honorably discharged in 1967. A 1963 graduate of Meadville High School, he was a member of the Italian Civic Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Meadville Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Station 4. His hobbies and interest included golfing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, cooking and making golf clubs. He also enjoyed the outdoors but his greatest joys were attending the activities of his grandchildren and playing with his dog, Gracie.

In addition to his wife, Helen, of 12 years, Robert is survived by five children, Robert F. Beier Jr. and his wife, Carrie, Donald D. Beier and Stephanie E. Beier, all of Meadville, Sean Kelley of Hollywood, Fla., and Katie Carr and her husband, Rob, of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Joshua Beier, Justin Beier, Jared Beier, Khaliah Manning, Kymora Manning, Kayla Kelley and Connor Carr; a sister, JoAnne Steadman and her husband, Art, of Cambridge Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Beier.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., with Father Matthew Kujawinski, pastor of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post 2006 will follow.

Robert will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, or St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., all in Meadville, Pa. 16335.

Good Bye my sweet friend,you will be missed. I am so glad I got to see you and visit with you at one of the latest reunions. We grew up to gether and I do remember how kind you were.
